Halifax-Northampton Habitat for Humanity is working in harmony with HFH International’s mission to address social, economic, and racial disparities in our community.

Because the lack of credit or access to credit is a major obstacle to Black homebuyers, we will assist with Financial Planning, Credit Counseling, and Homebuyer Education.

The new STEPS to Homeownership Program is aimed at addressing the barriers preventing Black families from achieving homeownership.

We are together from the start of the homeownership journey, from the moment you become a Partner to the time you move into your new Habitat Home.

By providing additional support, training, and counseling, Halifax-Northampton Habitat for Humanity offers a pathway for those who may not be immediately eligible for homeownership but are willing to work towards that goal.  

Participation in the learning programs shows your commitment to overcoming the obstacles preventing homeownership.

There are a lot of people that find themselves struggling with low credit scores, but it doesn't have to stay this way!

We recognize that every individual and family is unique and has different needs and circumstances. 

That is why we work closely with each family to identify their goals and to develop a custom plan that works for them.

The Halifax-Northampton Habitat for Humanity STEPS to Homeownership Program is not emergency or rental housing. 

It is a program that aims to help individuals and families achieve the dream of homeownership. All Habitat for Humanity Partners purchase their homes with an affordable mortgage.

The STEPS to Homeownership Program will prepare individuals to become homeowners, build wealth, self-esteem, and sustain a successful lifestyle by learning how to restore financial creditability and/or preserve good credit.

CREDIT & FINANCIAL EDUCATION (FREE CLASS)

Participation in the homeownership program will include Financial Literacy Classes and Credit Restoration Education through a community partner Global Resources & Opportunities Work (G.R.O.W) to help improve your credit knowledge and finances to become a qualified homeowner by learning skills to improve debt, savings, credit score, and budgeting.
